A Hedge-fund only South African Investment Manager are seeking an Equity Analyst to join their leading business in Johannesburg. Applicants must demonstrate an existing passion for Equity Investments, including evidence of running their own small stock portfolio, either currently or in the past.
A Hedge-fund only South African Investment Manager are seeking an Equity Analyst to join their leading business in Johannesburg. Applicants must demonstrate an existing passion for Equity Investments, including evidence of running their own small stock portfolio, either currently or in the past.
Providing support to the Portfolio Managers, you will act as a crucial part of the overall investment process and progress your experience quickly with this boutique firm. Successful applications will evidence: analytical abilities, a good existing understanding of financial statements, and the ability to summarise large amounts of financial information, into a short and pithy stock recommendation.
Personal qualities will include the ability to multi-task, to meet deadlines, and to handle pressure, as well as the confidence to make Equity recommendations to senior peers. Previous hands-on Investment Analysis or Equity Research experience in a professional setting is not a pre-requisite, but some work experience or internships within a relevant financial setting, would be useful. Applicants must be team players.
Key qualifications for the Equity Analyst:
- Undergraduate Degree and/or Masters in any of the following fields:
- Accountancy or Finance
- Actuarial
- Economics/Mathematics
- Engineering
- Business or Law
- Valuation methodologies (either formal or informal training)
- FMVA qualification or studying towards advantageous
- CFA qualification (Levels I,II,II/Charterholder) highly advantageous
- Superb command of written English and technical report writing for clients
- Excellent command of MS suite especially Excel and Powerpoint
- Highly numerate
N.B. Fully qualified CA (SA) candidates will also be considered, in addition to the above
Key responsibilities for the Equity Analyst:
- Performing Equity Analysis on JSE listed stocks, or stocks from other exchanges
- Performing financial valuations, cash flow forecasts
- Balance sheet assessments and income statement analysis
